Cosmetic Dentistry

f you look good, you feel good.

REASONS FOR COSMETIC DENTISTRY:

  • Discoloured teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Discoloured old white fillings
  • Amalgam (“silver”) fillings
  • Broken or decayed teeth
  • Gum disease (puffy, red, swollen gums with plaque and tartar build-up)
  • Staining of teeth (from tea, coffee, and smoking)
  • Gum recession, and tooth wear

PORCELAIN VENEERS
Veneers are made of a thin layer of natural shade porcelain. They are bonded to front teeth and help to improve the discoloration and shape of teeth, as well as close small gaps between teeth. This is the ultimate treatment option in cosmetic dentistry.

LASER TEETH WHITENING & “HOME BLEACHING
Using special gels your teeth can be safely whitened in under an hour to give you a brighter and more attractive smile. The use of a custom made tray at home will enhance the whitening effect.

HIGH QUALITY AESTHETIC RESTORATIONS
Using the finest dental materials available, we can restore decayed or broken teeth. We recommend laboratory made porcelain inlays or onlays for large back fillings. Discoloured fillings can be polished or redone to achieve a pleasing and natural colour match.

CLOSING GAPS
Any small gaps between front teeth can be cleverly disguised using white fillings, porcelain veneers or crowns. A larger gap may require denture treatment (removable) or bridges and implants (fixed).

LASER GUM CONTOURING
Our state-of-the-art dental laser machine can be used to subtly change gum contours for a more even smile.

COSMETIC RECONTOURING
Sometimes simple and minor reshaping of front teeth can make a quick and attractive improvement to your smile.

PERIODONTAL (GUM THERAPY) SESSIONS WITH A HYGIENIST
A thorough scale and polish alone can make a fantastic difference to your smile!

Please feel free to ask the dentist, hygienist or practice staff about further advice on any cosmetic related dental treatment.
Cosmetic dentistry will improve your confidence and enhance your smile, image and self-esteem!

Cosmetic Dentistry and Porcelain Veneers

A Porcelain veneer is a very thin porcelain shell, custom made to bond to the front surface of a tooth. Porcelain veneers are sometimes compared to false nails as they are very thin cosmetic coverings.

When Are Porcelain Veneers Needed?
In dental practice they are used to improve many dental problems:

  • Chipped teeth – repaired with veneers
  • Discoloured teeth – whitened with veneers
  • Misshapen teeth – improve the shape of your teeth and hide ‘ugly’ teeth
  • Crowded teeth – If teeth are out of line or too close together, veneers are an alternative to orthodontics or braces.
  • Gappy teeth – veneers are great at closing gaps between teeth. Teeth can be proportioned better.

What Are The Advantages of Veneers?
Porcelain veneers require minimal tooth preparation; hence you conserve as much tooth as possible. Veneers look very natural and most times much better than the teeth that were there before. They are done by dentist in the dental practice in as little as two to three visits.

How Long Do Veneers Last?
If you look after your veneers, i.e. have a good diet, good oral hygiene, regular dental checks and hygiene visits at the dental practice, veneers can be very successful and can last for years.

How much do Veneers cost in dental practice?
The cost of Porcelain veneers varies, so it is important to visit a cosmetic dentistry practice to discuss with the cosmetic dentist before starting any treatment.

Alternatives to Veneers
They are different options to veneers which are:

  • Teeth whitening
  • Orthodontics / clear braces
  • Dental crowns
  • White fillings
  • Cosmetic contouring

All the above can get similar but not the same results as veneers. This depends on each individual case!

Botox and Restylane

Cosmetic dentists are offering Botox and Restylane treatments in addition to cosmetic dentistry to enhance facial aesthetics as well as the smile. Botox has become one of the most popular cosmetic surgery measures all over the world.

Botox- What is it used for?
Botox softens facial lines or wrinkles caused by excessive frowning or smiling. It relaxes muscles of facial expression.

Botox – Is It Safe?
Botox is one of the safest cosmetic procedures available, only a small amount is used when doing the cosmetic procedure.
If administered in the right doses by qualified professionals, Botox is perfectly safe as long as your medical history and allergies are to be checked before administration.

How Long Does It Last?
The softening effects last about 3 or 4 months, resulting in the smoothing of your skin and the improvement of fine lines.

Restylane
Restylane is facial filler that can correct facial lines, wrinkles and deep folds.

Restylane– Is It Safe?
Restylane is a safe way to smooth out fine lines, wrinkles and deep folds, like botox there are injections involved. Restylane contains hyaluronic acid, which is produced naturally in your body. Restylane injections replace your body’s loss of hyaluronic acid, which can reduce the signs of ageing.

How long does it last?
It usually lasts 6-12 months. It can be used on lips, forehead, cheeks and chin. Just like Botox, if you stop treatment your lines will return to how they were. They will not get worse!
Perfect Smile Spa is a cosmetic dental practice that specialises in facial aesthetic treatments like Botox and Restylane as well as routine cosmetic dentistry.

Cosmetic Contouring and Whitening

A good option for improving your smile without having a full set of porcelain veneers, is a combination of cosmetic contouring and teeth whitening.

What is tooth contouring?
Contouring is a cosmetic dentistry procedure which polishes the edges of the teeth, giving the illusion that the teeth are level. If this is combined with either home whitening or ‘zoom’ chair side whitening, it will improve the smile without the preparation that porcelain veneers require.

Are There Any Side Effects to Teeth Contouring?
There are no known side effects to teeth contouring as only the outer superficial or enamel of the tooth is touched.

Types of Teeth Whitening
There are two types of whitening:

  • Home whitening – this takes approximately 10-14 days depending on the initial colour of the teeth
  • ‘Zoom’ whitening – this takes approximately 90 minutes and produces an instant whiteness

Are There Any Side Effects to Whitening?
Some people may experience temporary sensitivity during the treatment. These symptoms always disappear within 1-2 days of completion of the treatment.

What Other Combinations of Treatment Are Possible?
Sometimes it is possible to whiten and contour the lower teeth and then the cosmetic dentist would then prepare the upper teeth for porcelain veneers.

How Can I Find Out About Teeth Whitening and Other Cosmetic Treatments Available?
You can discuss any treatments with our cosmetic dentist or our highly trained team members at Perfect Smile Spa.

Combining Teeth Whitening and Porcelain Veneers

What is Teeth Whitening?
This is whitening process that lightens discolouration of enamel and dentine. It is the most popular cosmetic dentistry procedure.

Types of Teeth Whitening
There are two main types of whitening treatment available:

  • ‘Zoom’ laser whitening – done in the dentist chair – takes approximately 90 minutes
  • Home whitening – done in your own time at home – takes 1 hour per day (10-14 days)

What Causes Teeth to Discolour?
There are many causes of teeth discolouration. The most common are ageing, consumption of tea, coffee, red wine and tobacco. Another cause of darkening of the teeth is nerve degeneration.

Who Would Benefit From Teeth Whitening?
Almost anyone can benefit, but you must remember that old fillings or porcelain crowns or veneers will not respond to the whitening process. A cosmetic dentist would be able to tell you if whitening would be an option for you.

How Does Teeth Whitening Work?
Both treatments use oxygen releasing whitening gel placed against the surface of your teeth. As oxygen enters the enamel and dentine, it whitens the coloured substances. Only the teeth colour is made lighter, while the structure of the teeth remains unchanged.

Combined Whitening and Porcelain Veneers
In some cases a combination of laser whitening, home whitening and porcelain veneers could be a good way to keep to your budget, so that only the teeth that are causing disharmony would have to have porcelain veneers. Firstly the cosmetic dentist would lighten your teeth with ‘Zoom’ laser whitening in the practice and also give you a home whitening kit to use so that your teeth would go to the lightest possible shade. Then the teeth would be prepared for the porcelain veneers and would be made to match your new whiter colour.
If you think that a combination of whitening and porcelain veneers would be a good option for your budget, call Perfect Smile Spa on 01708 442114 or email: care@perfectsmilespa.co.uk

When should dental bridges be used?

What are Dental Bridges?
Dental bridges are fixed solutions for replacing missing teeth. You can replace from one to five teeth with dental bridges.

Why have dental bridges?
If teeth are not replaced the surroundings and opposing teeth can move, tilt and cause problems with the bite and eating.

Advantages of bridges
Dental bridges are a quick, easy option to replace teeth. They are fixed unlike dentures and require good strong teeth to be placed upon. They are relatively cheaper then dental implants.

Alternatives to Dental Bridges
Dentures, partial dentures, cosmetic dentures, acrylic dentures or chrome dentures are alternatives to bridges. Dental implants are another option to replace missing teeth.

What Are They Made Of?
The majority of dental bridges are made of metal and porcelain. You don’t see the metal as this is the sub structure and the porcelain is bonded to this to make them look like real teeth. Bridges are also made of porcelain only, known as porcelain bridges, which are metal free. As technology has advanced, so have the materials used and these porcelain bridges have very strong sub structures and have the aesthetic advantages of porcelain veneers.

How Do I Know What Option To Go For?
If you want fixed teeth (usually the best) then dental bridges or dental implants are the best. However your mouth needs to be assessed by a cosmetic dentist to see what’s best for you!
For more information on cosmetic dentistry and replacing teeth, contact Perfect Smile Spa on 01708 442114 or email: care@perfectsmilespa.co.uk

Porcelain Veneers - Are They Safe for Your Teeth?

Porcelain veneers are probably one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry procedures. Cosmetic dentists, London and all over the UK are placing porcelain veneers to enhance and restore people’s teeth.

Cosmetic Dentistry - Is It OK?

A common question cosmetic dentists get asked is – are porcelain veneers safe for your teeth? The answer is, as long as the process is carefully planned, porcelain veneers are fine. Porcelain veneers are good for crooked, stained, gappy, chipped or worn teeth. If teeth are very crooked then more preparation may be needed to correctly shape the final smile. But the cosmetic dentist should explain all the risks and benefits of treatment and give you alternatives to treatment.

Alternatives to Dental Veneers

If teeth are severely damaged then porcelain crowns may be a better option. If you do not wish your teeth to be prepared with veneers, clear braces or orthodontics may be an option. If you only want whiter teeth, you could have teeth whitening.

What’s the Best Option?

There is no best option, but until the cosmetic dentist has seen your teeth, with your concerns addressed, only then can the best option be offered. The long term health is most important when considering cosmetic dentistry.

Get Honest Advice!

It is best to go to an experienced cosmetic dentist who wants the best for you! Perfect Smile Spa specialize in porcelain veneers and cosmetic dentistry.

Are all dentists capable of cosmetic dentistry?

What Is A Cosmetic Dentist?
A cosmetic dentist is a dentist with many years of further training and experience in the field of cosmetic dentistry.

What Is Cosmetic Dentistry?
Cosmetic dentistry is not a legally recognised speciality. So there is nothing stopping any dentist calling himself or herself a cosmetic dentist. However, doing cosmetic dentistry is not just being a dentist it is being an artist too!
Cosmetic dentists are passionate about the appearance of their dentistry and have a high expectation of how their work looks.

What Is A General Dentist?
General dentists are generally trained to fix teeth. They will do work to improve function. Cosmetic dentists must do this too and make the teeth look beautiful at the same time. A general dentist can diagnose what’s wrong with a tooth but a cosmetic dentist will determine what a person does not like about their smile and then what can be done to correct this.

Types of Cosmetic Dentistry

  • Porcelain veneers are one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry procedures, carried out by many general dentists and cosmetic dentists. Porcelain veneers are probably one of the best cosmetic dentistry procedures to make beautiful teeth.
  • Clear braces are another option to straighten crooked or gappy teeth.
  • Teeth whitening – the most popular cosmetic dentistry procedure - a very easy and cheap way to whiten your teeth.
  • Botox and Restylane are facial cosmetics that will enhance your appearance to give you a youthful appearance to match your beautiful smile.

Cosmetic dentistry is the main speciality at Perfect Smile Spa.

Top Teeth Whitening tips

Teeth whitening, a vastly growing industry is a very easy and quick treatment that can make you smile bright for your wedding day.
The best way to get your teeth safely white is to visit a cosmetic dentist. A cosmetic dentist will check the health of your mouth and can then recommend what’s best for you.

The best way to get whiter teeth is ‘Zoom’ laser whitening followed by home whitening. ‘Zoom’ laser whitening involves approximately one hour visit at the dentist and you can achieve about 4-10 shades lighter teeth. This is the quickest way to whiten your teeth. If you have time then you can do home whitening only. It takes about 10-14 days to work but the results are equally amazing!
My personal recommendation is both laser and home as this achieves the best result in the shortest time and I have had the treatment myself.
There are many over the counter teeth whitening kits available and at non dentist salons. Be very careful of the products as some unsupervised products can damage your teeth and may do very little to brighten your smile.
Only a registered dentist should carry out teeth whitening but there are many teeth whitening toothpastes that may help remove some staining but they do not whiten your teeth.

Keeping your breath clean & fresh
Top tips to keep your teeth clean and fresh is to make sure that every night you brush correctly, floss and use inter dental brushes if necessary. During the day, repeat this in the morning and if it makes your mouth feel fresher a mouth wash may be helpful. It’s always good to keep some floss in your pocket, in case you get any food trapped in between the teeth, during the day. Strong mint mouth wash can help maintain a fresh breath, but making sure your tongue is clean with a tongue scraper will also help.
Visiting the dental hygienist will avoid build up of plaque and tartar which will improve your oral health and breath.

Achieving a perfect smile
What is a perfect smile? For some it is perfect bright ‘Hollywood’ teeth, for others it may be a natural bright smile. What ever it is you wish, cosmetic dentist Dr Jas Sagoo can help you achieve it!
If you are happy with the shape of your teeth than simple teeth whitening can help achieve a brighter younger smile. If you are unhappy with the shape of your teeth whether they are crooked, gappy or worn, then you could have porcelain veneers or clear braces.
There are so many options and cosmetic dentistry has advanced so much that you can have the smile you’ve always wanted – The perfect smile.

Laser Teeth Whitening- Aftercare

Tooth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry treatments. Laser teeth whitening is a very quick, safe and affordable treatment.

Things to consider before laser teeth whitening

  • Are your teeth sensitive, if they are they may become more sensitive during teeth whitening, but this is only temporary.
  • Do you have any porcelain veneers, dental crowns or dental bridges, if so these will not whiten with teeth whitening?
  • Do you have any fillings on your front teeth, if so they may not whiten and you may need to get them matched in after?

The procedure
Laser teeth whitening involves a cosmetic dentist applying special whitening gel on your teeth after protection of the gums and then applying a special light to catalyse the teeth whitening process so that you have whiter teeth in an hour!

Homecare
In order for your teeth to stay whiter for as long as possible it is advised to have the home teeth whitening kit as and when you feel. This way your teeth may stay lighter for years and years.

Success Rates
Tooth whitening is very successful and on average cosmetics dentists see teeth lighten between 4-10 shades and sometimes 15+ shades! And it last for years.!

Root Canal Treatment (Endodontics). Why?

Many people are afraid of root canal treatment, but there is no need. This treatment can be done painlessly and successfully just like having a filling done.

Why have root canal treatment?
Having this treatment can save your tooth. When bacteria passes to the nerve of the tooth, the tooth can become painful and infected. The nerve of the tooth may become damaged and can spread to the bone beneath the tooth. Root canal treatment will clean the bacteria and save your tooth.

What happens if I leave the tooth?
If the tooth is left untreated you may get an abscess which will cause more pain and swelling.

What are the symptoms of Endodontics?

  • Persistent toothache
  • Swelling near tooth
  • Tooth darkened by trauma
  • Tender gum or tooth

Does the treatment hurt?
NO! The treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic and is usually painless after the procedure too!

Cosmetic Dentistry and Root Canal Treatment
Once the treatment is complete, the tooth is usually restored with either a filling, porcelain onlay or porcelain crown. Porcelain crown / onlay are usually the treatment of choice.

Still worried about treatment?

Don’t be
Our endodontist at Perfect Smile Spa is gentle, caring and very experienced to perform successful Root Canal Treatment.

What is Orthodontics?

Orthodontics is a special field of dentistry that can correct misaligned teeth. If your teeth are crooked, gappy or crowded orthodontics may be for you.

Types of Orthodontics
There are many types of orthodontics. Popular types include:

Clear braces – these are clear or invisible like Clearstep or Inman Aligner.
Conventional braces – metal or ceramic braces traditionally used to correct misaligned teeth.
Removable braces – these are special orthodontic braces that can be removed for eating and cleaning.
Advantages of Orthodontics and Cosmetic Dentistry
Orthodontics can be non invasive. It may be not be necessary to remove teeth or drill healthy teeth. You can keep your normal teeth look.

Disadvantages of Orthodontics and Cosmetic Dentistry
If your teeth are very crowded, teeth may need to be removed to create space. Orthodontic treatment takes time and is not instant like porcelain veneers. Orthodontic treatment can take from 2 – 24 months depending on the severity of the mal occlusion. A retainer must be worn to prevent relapse of the corrected teeth.

Alternatives to Orthodontics
If you don’t want orthodontics you could consider porcelain veneers which can be completed in two visits. Porcelain veneers are sometimes known as instant orthodontics.

Cost of Orthodontics
Cost of orthodontics varies but usually starts at around £2000 for fixed braces.

Where Should I Go For Orthodontic Treatment
Orthodontic treatment should be carried out by an appropriately qualified cosmetic dentist or orthodontist.

What Is Teeth Whitening?
Teeth whitening is a cosmetic dentistry procedure that will safely and naturally whiten discoloured teeth.

Why Do Teeth Discolour?
Teeth can discolour due to many reasons:

  • Tea, coffee, wine and smoking can discolour teeth

How Much Whiter Will My Teeth Look With Teeth Whitening?
On average we see about 4 – 8 shades brighter teeth and many times about 12 – 15! Teeth whitening is very effective and very successful in our experience.

Factors influencing root canal treatment

Root canal treatment may often be required as part of popular cosmetic dentistry treatments. Cosmetic dentist, London and all over U.K. are finding that teeth that are damaged, infected, very painful require root canal treatment to save and restore the tooth.

If you need root canal treatment the following factors are very important:
1)Medical Health and root canal treatment
Your general medical health must be ok before root canal treatment can be done e.g. heart defects etc.

2)When root canal treatment is required
Teeth with infection and or decay, broken or damaged teeth usually need root canal treatment before restoring the teeth.

3)Gum health and root canal treatment
Your gums must be of good health before root canal treatment can be done. If the gums are not in optimal health gum disease treatment is necessary 1st. If the teeth are have severe gum disease than root canal treatment may not be worth it.

4) What happens after root canal treatment?

If you need small to medium size fillings then resin white fillings are good. If the fillings are large then porcelain inlays or onlays are much longer lasting. If the tooth is very weak porcelain crowns may be better. The cosmetic dentist will tell you what is best for your tooth or teeth.

5) Success of root canal treatment
Root canal treatment is very successful (90-95%) and re - root canal treatment is also about 70% successful.

6) Root canal treatment and endodontists
Endodontists are dentists with further training in root canal treatment. They only do root canal treatment with advanced equipment. This increases the success rate of root canal treatment.

7) Cost of root canal treatment
Root canal treatment varies from dental clinic to dental clinic. Finance plans are available to fund root canal treatment at a good cosmetic dentist.

Top Ten Factors influencing white fillinings

One of the most popular cosmetic dentistry treatments are white fillings. Cosmetic dentist, London and all over U.K. are finding that most people want white fillings as opposed to mercury silver fillings.

If you considering white fillings the following factors are very important:

1. Medical Health and white fillings
Your general medical health must be ok before white fillings can be placed.

2. Teeth health and white fillings treatment
When considering white fillings the general health of your teeth must be good in order for those teeth to be successfully enhanced. Teeth must be infection and decay free. Most times when having white fillings the health and function of your teeth are improved as well as aesthetics.

3. Gum health and white fillings
Your gums must be of good health before white fillings can be done. If the gums are not in optimal health gum disease treatment is necessary 1st, then white fillings can be placed.

4. Types of white fillings
If you need small to medium size fillings then resin white fillings are good. If the fillings are large then porcelain inlays or onlays are much longer lasting. If teeth are root filled and weak porcelain crowns may be better. The cosmetic dentist will tell you whats best for your tooth or teeth

The cosmetic dentist will examine your bite patterns in detail before and after placing white fillings.

6. Wear of your teeth and white fillings
If there is a lot of wear on your teeth, then white fillings and porcelain onlays are important for health and function. Wear is normally caused by grinding of teeth and or erosion by acidic influences. This is very important to diagnose before restoring teeth.

7. Protect your white fillings
Most good cosmetic dentist will advise a night bite guard to protect white fillings or any restorative treatment you have. This is can help prevent fractures and increase the life of the restorations.

8. Oral hygiene, Diet and white fillings
Your oral hygiene and diet must be good in order for the white fillings to last and stay good for many years.

9. Success of white fillings
If all of the above are taken into consideration and you visit a good cosmetic dentist, white fillings are very successful.

How to Pick an Orthodontist

Picking the right orthodontist is important because the process of orthodontic work can be painful and drawn out over a long period of time. Trusting your orthodontist is integral to making it a pleasant experience, and a few easy steps can help you pick the right orthodontist.

Ask around to get a feel for who others in your area approve of. Ask how your friends and acquaintances feel about their orthodontists' practices, offices and manner with patients and employees.
Step2
Look for great teeth and consider visiting the orthodontists responsible for them. Like someone who seeks out a fresh haircut according to others' styles, do the same with teeth. If you admire someone's newly revealed smile, inquire about her orthodontist.
Step3
Go in for a consultation with an orthodontist. An important step in picking the right orthodontist is actually sitting in the chair and having the doctor assess your needs. If you feel comfortable with the doctor and at ease with his recommendations for treatment, consider working with him in the long term.
Step4
Get recommendations from your dentist. Dentists will often gladly refer patients to the orthodontists they trust and whose work they admire. Because both professionals depend on each other for referrals, dentists are likely to be picky in deciding which orthodontist to endorse.
Step5
Consider cost and insurance policies. One of the most practical and straightforward ways to choose an orthodontist is to find out which ones accept your insurance and how much the procedures they plan to do will cost in the long run. Orthodontists should be willing to discuss various treatment options to find out what is most cost effective for individual patients
